Pinup Nights is held once a month in the Woodside Social Club, a large open venue that has a ‘Still Game’ feel about it. Kodiak were playing with The Hedrons, The Merchants and The Beat Trap and more importantly it saw the unveiling of the first limited edition Kodiak badge! The Hedrons kicked off the night with a fantastic set that was full of energy.
It was set up for a good night and as the place started to fill the venue decided to get warmer - alot warmer: it was warmer than a turkish wrestlers jock strap (and that’s warm!)The Merchants were next up and this lot really got the crowd going. They had brought a lot of people and they were well up for their set. Had the place bouncing and was a great time of the night for Kodiak to play their set.
A set that was tight as ever - a few songs maybe needing shifted around here and there, but it’s definitely getting there… The majority of the Kodiak fans were sitting at the left hand side of the stage and with no speakers whatsoever it was apparent that we were not getting a true reflection of the sound so we ushered ourselves to the middle of the floor (where the bar was, I might add!) and it was there that you could hear the full sound of the bass and the vocals seemed much clearer! At this point the heat in the place was almost unbearable, and as Kodiak set came to an end a lot of people were leaving because of fear of sweating to death!
Next up were The Beat Trap who had previously supported Franz Ferdinand, they had all the swagger of a band who had played with the best - it was a tight set musically and those who had come to see them went home happy am sure. All in all John and his guys put on a great night and the fanzine and badge the first 100 people get at the door is a nice touch. Hopefully, we will be working again with John for gigs in 2006.
